It'd be cool to look into venues that aren't in SF. I'll think about it, but I would urge you to as well.

How much does this event want to stick to the spirit of SHDH (specifically, staying away from office-like venues)?

Well, seems like Drawing Room is taking on a life of its own already, but we wont know for sure until we actually have an event, I think. SHDH is "The premier monthly hackathon event that combines serious and not-so-serious productivity with a fun and exciting party atmosphere." I think Drawing Room has a little more meaty, if you will, and as such, office-like venues can't hurt, especially as they can help to provide work space.

What about Frog Design? They have an office at 660 3rd Street.
